| Bo’ness
has begun a new era of celebration to add to a growing number of
very positive events in the annual life of this small but vibrant
town only 15 miles from Edinburgh.
The day started early and a little overcast but by the opening
time of 12 noon the sun broke through and continued to shine on
the crowd, of approximately 5000/6000, all afternoon and indeed
late into the evening.
Queen Victoria accompanied by her close friend, John Brown,
and our own Fair Queen, Alexandra Findlayson, opened the
event and stayed throughout the afternoon to enjoy the carnival atmosphere.
Over
40 portable trading outlets joined the many local Bo’ness
Town Centre traders to create a unique mixture of high quality specialist
items to buy as well as many more day to day items.
Mary Jane Armstrong of Town Centre Management, co-organisers
of the event, commented that “this has proved to be an
excellent event and the community involvement will hold future Street
Fair’s in good stead.”
The last street fair took place in of Bo’ness in
1997 and it has taken a good partnership between Bo'ness Community
Council, Bo'ness means Business and Town Centre Management
to bring the event back to Bo’ness so fast.
